Silent Sunday – When Peter went swimming!

As I am finishing up the book of John, one verse has really stood out to me this week. It is John 21:7 (ESV): That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.”

I love this picture of Peter jumping into the water and swimming to the shore to greet his Lord. I’ve been thinking about how Peter wept bitterly when he realized that he had denied that he was a follower of Jesus (see Luke 22:62). Peter must have been overjoyed at the opportunity to see Jesus again and to enjoy his presence. How cool that he got to have another opportunity even after he had denied even knowing Jesus! So, throw yourself into the sea this week! Time spent with God…both in prayer and in reading His Word…is precious!

I’m praying for the Ehty people today. I’m praying that they will get to read this special story of an ordinary guy who followed Jesus with his life! Sponsoring one verse of scripture today means that we are one verse closer to God’s Word existing in the heart language of the Ehty people in South Asia.
